Tutorials & Inspiration

NaritaFamily

One of the most stunning galleries of models, CGI, and photography I have seen; truly a multi-talented artist. His site highlights a number of superior model building projects with great tips and tricks; how to's and how not-to's, he takes you on a step-by step walk  through many of his builds. It's not always in English, and while it would be nice to learn some of the secrets that may be locked away in a foreign language I don't understand (Google translator fails to successfully translate the page) the images are inspiring and speak volumes on their own.

No sign-up, no fees, he has made this available to the public. Absolutely worth the effort to look and follow.

Mr. Damek is an astounding modeler. I first noticed his video tutorial on building cockpits and the details that added to the model. He provides probably the best example of customizing a model with scratch built add-on's. The level of minute detail he is able to achieve is remarkable and his ability to make it look so simple leaves me feeling inadequate to the task. His work is not only instructional but inspirational as well.

I often find myself back at this individual's site as he gives a great step by step tutorial on how to build am in-flight stand for your aircraft. Most invaluable to me is that he includes details on what brands and sizes of parts to purchase. Upon further exploration however he maintains a gallery of his own remarkable builds great for inspiration as well as a couple of tutorials on not only in-flight aircraft stands, but also panel lining and a couple of other things.
His build tutorials are also step by step and perfectly structured as you follow along through the instructions and his build. He leaves no stone unturned.

Haggis Models

Professional modeler posts photos of model projects he's worked on. Great visual interest and inspirational material when working on your own builds.

Displaying Your Models

  • Aircraft in Flight - Details on how to create brass rod display stand for in-flight aircraft. I like this page because it actually identifies specifically what sized rods to use for various scales.

Tools

  • Build your own vacu-form box - There are several tutorials out there on how to build your own vacuum forming machine. This is one of the better tutorials. I have seen tuts on easier to build boxes but this one looks more "durable" than many of the others.
