While in the process of looking up reference material for the aircraft models I am building, I often find myself navigating all over the web in search of information on various airframes, build techniques, etc. What I discovered to be helpful was to collect playlists of videos based on a particular aircraft or building techniques. I then watch those playlists while I worked on my own models. It was a way of viewing the work, opinions and techniques of many people in one place rather than having to stop what I was doing every so often to navigate between various YouTube channels, forums and web sites. It also keeps me "company" while building.
After collecting a number of playlists it became difficult to scan the list to find the topic I was interested in. I figured I could use a blog to organize and label/tag my playlists in a way that would make them easier to find. So looking up my playlists about F-14 Tomcats is as easy as clicking on the "F-14" tag.
The videos represent a variety of contributors and are largely categorized into four categories ...
- Model Build: These are playlists of videos which represent the actual BUILD of a model. So you will actually see the modeler's build process. Some are more descriptive and helpful than others but everybody has a different way of doing the same thing and you never know who at what value will be found where.
- Reference: These are typically aircraft video references; walk-arounds, documentaries; anything which highlights and provides historical or technical information about a plane.
- Technique: These are tutorial videos which focus on a specific model building technique; weathering, sanding, filling, etc. Often different people have different ways of approaching the same thing so to be able to see as many of them in one place as possible has been quite helpful for me.
- Kit Review: I don't typically care for in-box kit reviews because they do not tell you about how the model actually builds. But I have found them to be helpful in determining whether a model has the basic features I am interested in (i.e. raised panel lines, level of detail, etc.) before I purchase it, so I have begun to add kit reviews to my list of playlists.
If you have made your way to my humble site I hope that you have found something worthwhile and useful. The videos here are all provided free of charge and publically by their respective producers. I cannot guarantee that they will always be available as I do not control them myself and videos are often removed. I will try to keep content updated so the contents of a playlist may also change from the time they were originally posted.
Feel free to contact me if ...
- you should run across a video that has been removed for some reason please let me know.
- you are the originator of any of the videos and wish that it be removed from a playlist.
- you find other video that you think would provide additional value to an existing playlist.
- you have an idea for a playlist that I have not yet covered. Aircraft model, or perhaps a category I have not considered yet.
